Getting Your Green Light: DGCA Medical Fitness

Navigating eGCA, Class II, and Class I Medical Assessments.

In our last post, we covered the minimum educational and age qualifications required to become a pilot. If you meet those criteria, congratulations!

But before you start studying aerodynamics or exploring flight academies, you must clear one critical hurdle: your medical fitness.

Aviation authorities maintain strict medical standards to ensure flight safety. Let’s walk through the official DGCA process step-by-step.
Step 01

Register on the eGCA Portal

First, create your digital aviation identity on the DGCA eGCA Portal .

You’ll generate an eGCA ID, which will be used to track your medical reports, licensing progress, and pilot records.

Step 02

Class II Medical Assessment

This is your starting point. You must visit a DGCA-approved medical examiner.

  • General physical exam & BMI
  • ECG (heart health)
  • Audiometry (hearing)
  • Blood & urine tests
  • Vision & eye examination
Can you fly with glasses? Yes! If your vision is correctable to 6/6 and you don’t have color blindness, you are generally eligible.

Find approved doctors via the official DGCA Class II Medical Examiner list .

Step 03

Class I Medical Assessment

Required for your Commercial Pilot License (CPL), this is a more advanced evaluation.

  • Only after completing Class II
  • Conducted at Air Force centers or specialized hospitals
  • More detailed and strict assessment

AeroGuide Pro Tip: Complete both Class II and Class I medicals before joining a flight school. This avoids costly surprises later.

What’s the Next Step?

Once your medical is approved, you are officially cleared for takeoff!

Keep going—you’re closer to the cockpit than you think!
