Let’s Get Cleared for Takeoff

Your journey to the cockpit starts here. Follow this step-by-step roadmap and take off with confidence.

Step 01

The Groundwork (Eligibility)

Before you start dreaming of jet engines, check your basics.

  • The Rule: Pass your 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.
  • The Age: Start flying at 17, but you must be 18 to earn your commercial wings.
Missed Math or Physics? Don’t worry — we’ll cover the backup plan in an upcoming post!
Step 02

The Green Light (Medical Fitness)

Aviation has strict health standards. Before you invest in flight school, you must prove you're physically fit to fly.

  • Class II Medical: Your first checkup with a DGCA-approved doctor.
  • Class I Medical: The detailed evaluation required for commercial pilots.
Step 03

The Classroom (DGCA Ground Exams)

A great pilot is made on the ground first. You’ll verify documents, get your Computer Number, and clear theoretical exams.

  • The Subjects: Air Navigation, Meteorology, Air Regulation, and Aircraft Technicals.
Step 04

The Fun Part (Flight Training)

This is where you finally take the controls and start flying.

  • SPL & PPL: Begin with a Student Pilot License and progress to a Private Pilot License.
  • The CPL: Log 200 hours of flying including solo, night, and cross-country flights.
Step 05

The Final Polish (Airline Readiness)

A CPL is not the final step — airlines require additional skills.

  • Instrument Rating (IR): Fly using only cockpit instruments in poor visibility.
  • Multi-Engine Rating (MER): Learn to operate complex multi-engine aircraft.

What’s Next?

And there you have it — your blueprint to the cockpit. It takes time, dedication, and focus, but the journey is absolutely worth it.

Next on AeroGuide: We’ll zoom into Step 1 — covering eligibility, age limits, and options for Arts/Commerce students .

Stay tuned, and keep your eyes on the skies!
